Rosaries for the novices

Generous benefactors have offered the purchase rosaries for our novices as simple profession gifts. . .

Can anyone suggest a good place in the U.S. to buy nice but not outrageously expensive rosaries to be worn with the OP habit, i.e., sturdy, fifteen decades?

Is there a Dominican monastery in the U.S. that makes rosaries?  It would be a double gift if the rosaries could be purchased from our own nuns!

Mille grazie!

    Hi Father,
Don't know of any Dominican sisters making rosaries, but how about some Carmelites up the road a piece in Colorado.

  2. Hi Father-

I have a little custom rosary shop, where I make rosaries to the customers specifications, pretty inexpensively.

    Here are a couple examples:

Since these are only 5 decades they are a little less in price, but I would be willing to make similar 15 decade rosaries for $40.

I started up the shop to help pay for my husband's theology graduate studies.

If you're interested let me know!

    Hi Father.

I think the nuns in West Springfield, Mass., make habit rosaries. Probably all the monasteries will do. However, the bookstore at Santa Sabina also has habit rosaries, both in cord and chain, and I don't think they're too expensive. (You've surely seen them.)

By the way, if you choose a non-Dominican Ropsary maker for the novices' habit Roaries, do not forget that the Dominican Rosary has only one bead between the Crucifix and the first decade. If you are a Dominican and you didn't know that, just ask yourself who your novice master was and things might become a lttle clearer for you.

  6. Father,

Here in the Western Province the Novice Master has them made by our Nun's at Corpus Christi Monastery in Menlo Park, CA. You might want to get in touch with him for the details.

By the way, many of the OP nuns' monasteries that make Rosaries (practically all of them) do so as a means os supporting themselves, so do consider purchasing from them rather than any other kind of outlet with other ways of means. And overpay them! Finally, do be clear about the fact that the Dominican habit Rosary is the fifteen-decade Rosary. Father, O.P.

The rosaries made by the nuns at Farmington Hills, Michigan (co. Sister Miriam at 29575 Middlebelt Road, Farmington Hills, MI 48334) can be made with commercial fishing line if you ask for it (the stuff out of which commercial fisherman make their nets) and that is strong!

  9. The Dominican nuns of St. Jude Monastery in Alabama made mine. It's super sturdy cord with big, wooden beads.
