ReplyDeleteI recently started following your blog and enjoy and appreciate your commments, both political and religious. I have to differ with you on waterboarding, though. I've been waterboarded, at the Air Force survival, evasion, resistance and escape school for aircrews. I took this course as a new USAF pilot in 1980. We were waterboarded, and worse. We had no temperature regulations as they do at Gitmo. We were soaked with ice water and made to crouch in a small cage, on a cement floor, with an air temp of less than 60, for hours. It was rough, it was harsh, but it was not torture. Torture is having to choose between jumping or frying, as many were forced to do on 9-11 at the WTC. Torture is cutting off body parts, or running electrical current via body parts. Waterboarding is so harsh that it must be controlled carefully and monitored closely. But it's not torture, and neither is sleep deprivation or loud music. I've been through those and come out sane and physically unharmed, though it was one of the most difficult trials of my life.
